Watertown will set its course for the next four years as voters go to the polls Tuesday to select a mayor and five council members. In most years, it is unusual for that all five current council members face the prospect of not serving in city government after votes are cast.
In most years, city elections are relatively ho-hum affairs with many council seats uncontested. Because it is considered the entry level into elected politics, people generally are reluctant to be exposed to public scrutiny. In 2011, as an example, four of the five council members ran un-opposed.

Civic capacity at its pinnacle

Midway through 2012, Market Street Services began working with the H2O-20 Steering Committee to facilitate the development of Watertown’s Vision for 2020. The Vision Plan is the product of many months of hard work by the Steering Committee, based on input received from more than 2,300 residents. As a share of total population, this level of resident participation shattered our firm’s record.
